Marathon Association Satara, established in 2012, is a non-profit organization with a mission of promoting a fitness culture & healthy lifestyle through physical activity, especially distance running.

We have made consistent efforts to promote and support all activities aimed at encouraging the Indian Running community in general and the Local Satara Running community in particular.

We are very proud of our success in bringing together thousands of people from all walks of life to work together as one family , one community, towards making our world a better place to live.

Following are some of the social initiatives which are close to our hearts and that we are proud of having contributed to :

1. BKBN ( BETI KOI BOJH NAHI )

This was the theme of the Dhamaal run / Fun run for the SHHM 2016.

The aim was to create awareness about the need for protecting and encouraging the “GIRL CHILD”

Runners ran the Dhamaal run , a 3.5 km fun run , while carrying their daughters on their shoulders, to symbolize that our Girls are an asset to the family and society, not a liability.

2. COL. SANTOSH MAHADIK MEMORIAL STREET WORKOUT STATION, AT SHAHU STADIUM SATARA.

This is the largest open air street workout station of its kind in India. It was inaugurated on 15th January 2016. Entry is free and it has rapidly become a popular place for sportsmen and people of all ages to come together and exercise throughout the day. There is always a huge crowd, sweating it out on any given day, especially in the mornings and evenings.

3. SAAS ( Satara for All, All for Satara )

This is an initiative by MARATHON ASSOCIATION SATARA supported by SATARA NAGARPALIKA.

It aims to create awareness and inspiration among our fellow citizens & to draft and develop plans of action to achieve our cherished dream of a cleaner and healthier Satara by 17th September 2017, when we flag off the 6th edition of the ever popular PNB MetLife Satara Hill Half Marathon.

Some of the activities we undertook in this regard are as follows :

A] 24 HOUR DAY AND NIGHT RUN -

We organised a "24 hour Day and Night continous relay run" in and around Satara city, on 1st January 2017 to kick-start our campaign to achieve our objective over the next 9 months leading up to the event.

Over 650 runners of all ages and abilities from Satara volunteered and ran between 8 am on 1st January till 8 am on 2nd January 2017 , anywhere from a minimum of 15 minutes up to a maximum of 24 hours. Runners ran on pre defined routes , covering almost all the residential as well as business localities of the city and its suburbs, drawing attention of the entire city’s population to our cause.

In fact, 4 of them ran for almost the entire 24 hour period, [ except short breaks for rest and refuellling in between ] clocking up an impressive total of over 400 kms in the process. The overall distance covered by all the participants totaled well over 3000 kms.

B] SPOT CLEANING AND BEAUTIFICATION DRIVE -

As a part of our 24 hour run to promote running for health and a Cleaner and Greener Satara, we also undertook a cleaning and beautification drive on a pre - selected spot on Radhika road. This spot is located opposite Hotel Sagar Deluxe, and was becoming a hot spot for garbage and filth.

We cleaned it up through the day, digging out literally 4 trolleys full of garbage and rubble which was clogging the drainage systems as well as spilling on to the road causing a huge eyesore to all who passed by.

We are very happy with the end result.

We hope to maintain this level of cleanliness and aesthetic appeal at this spot with help from the local administration, which has been very supportive of this initiative.

We hope to replicate this pattern at many more spots in Satara , with the help of the running community, the citizens of Satara , and the solid support of the Nagarpalika with the newly elected team and Mayor Mrs Madhavi Kadam at the helm of the affairs.

The pro-active and dynamic CEO of Nagarpalika Mr Shankar Gore has also been very positive in this matter.

Together, we hope to make a real difference as a TEAM !!!

C] Renovation Of Public Toilets At Chh. Shahu Stadium. -

As a part of our efforts towards a cleaner, healthier and better SATARA, under the SAAS [ Satara For All, All For Satara ] initiative , Marathon Association Satara undertook the renovation and beautification of the Public Toilets in Chattrapati Shahu Stadium Satara.

We have now completed the project and dedicate it to the citizens and sports persons of Satara on this aupicious day - 26th January 2017, Our Republic Day.

We wish to acknowledge and thank our friend Shri Satish Korattil, of Jadhav- Korattil developers, for his focus on completing the work in record time, and for whole hearted commitment to doing quality work.

We have tried to set a new standard in the aesthetic appeal and functional utility of the public toilets, and hope to maintain the same standard of cleanliness and functionality, with the active support and help of all those who actually use it.

It will require the voluntary efforts of everyone involved, to make this happen.

We have active and whole hearted support from the administration, headed by Hon.Collector Shri Ashwin Mudgal Sir and District Sports Officer Shri Suhas Patil.

Together , we hope to achieve this.

TEAM WORK makes the DREAM WORK !
